Join us for a Summer Bingo Challenge at Peninsula Books

Welcome summer!!! We are celebrating with having a summer Bingo challenge for adults! Pick up a Bingo sheet at our location beginning Thursday, June 6 or download (links below). Read books and complete Bingo challenge. Return your completed Bingo sheet to our location to receive a completion prize and be entered into a raffle for additional prizes.

June is also when we celebrate Pride, Juneteenth, and dads. We have a great selection of books to honor these events/holidays. We also have a pride event on June 13th with author TherActivist! Come on out.

Books & Bongs

Join these celebrated authors for a painting party from 4-6pm at Color Me Mine then walk over to us (Peninsula Books next door)  for the authors panel from 6-7pm. We’d love to see you at both events, but if you can only make one, no worries! There is plenty of parking at the WestLake Shopping Center, just park near the Trader Joe’s.

TherActivist Author Discussion

Join TherActivist discussion their book, activism as part of our Pride festivities. They will answer questions and sign copies of their books.

The TherActivist: They/ Them/ Theirs book and documentary project shines light on the intersections of identity, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging; gender expression and social justice activism against the backdrop of anti-Black racism, anti-LGBTQIA violence, and social exclusion. A combination of Black Lives Matter, LGBTQIA+ rights, equity and more! The TherActivist embodies a “therapeutic activism”

approach, while servicing and empowering people of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, and marginalized populations.

Books & Bongs

Join us for a author panel discussion on cannabis gardening and cooking with authors Jamie Evans, Penny Barthel, Monica Lo, and Haejin Chun.  This is part of a larger event that includes painting bongs at Color Me Mine. We will have their books available to purchase onsite and you can pre-order in advance through this link.

Children’s Book Swap

We are partnering up with Daly City Partnership and Skyline.Bookbox for a Children’s Books Swap. Bring children’s books in good condition to share with others. All languages welcome and bringing books is not a requirement to attend.

 

Independent Bookstore Day 2024

Friday, April 26 -Independent Bookstore Spirit Day

We are celebrating our first Independent Bookstore Day this year. We will will kick it off at Gilman Brewery in Daly City for Peninsula Book Collaborative Birthday Bash. We will have Book Trivia, prizes, food and a drink ticket for those who attend. The event is for all ages and you can create a team and come together, find a team there, or play on your own. This is a fundraiser to support the Collaborative. Tickets are $25 and we have a few free tickets for educators/library staff  as well. Get your ticket or sponsor the event today.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 27 – Independent Bookstore Day

Join us for our first Indie Bookstore Day. We will have prizes throughout the day, special giveaways, and Indie Bookstore exclusives.

Some things we have in process:

  • Bookstore Bingo with prizes
  • Special storytime at 10:30 am!
  • Treats throughout the day
  • Kids coloring corner
  • Prizes with every purchase

Admissions & Financial Aid Workshops

Getting into your dream college can feel daunting, but it’s less about secrets and more about understanding what colleges are looking for and how to present yourself in the best possible light. Join Erica Hernandez, a leading admissions consultant in the Bay Area, for a 4 part series to help you stand out. She has devoted 15+ years to education and nonprofit leadership, focusing on admissions and financial aid to get students into their dream colleges from Ivy League colleges, UCs, and CSUs and receive the scholarships and grants necessary to attend.

This series is geared for juniors and seniors in high school.

Collaborative Covers Art Class with Laura McHugh

Update: new date is June 26th!

Attendees will learn how to make a book for journaling, collaging or drawing/painting. Work with others to mark a large sheet of mixed media paper with paint, markers, pencil, pastels to make a folded cover for a small (4×5”) book.

Laura is self-taught artist and a Half Moon Bay resident. She recently completed an 8 year appointment as a District 3 San Mateo County Arts Commissioner. She is a GOLDEN Paint Company certified art educator who has been giving art workshops on the coast since 2012.

Space will be limited to 10 attendees so please register in advance.

Teddy Bear Clinic

Teddy Bear Clinics are opportunities for children to become familiar and explore medical equipment while they play alongside real medical professionals. This event aims to prepare kids for doctor visits or other medical experiences. Children will be provided with the tools to be a doctor or a nurse and perform a ‘check up’ on a stuffed animal. Stuffed animals will be provided (while supplies last).
