Our First Book Fair!

Our First School Book Fair!
We hosted our very first school book fair this April at Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Elementary School. This event supports PBC’s goal of encouraging youth readership and supporting local education. This event helped bring the school community together by connecting parents with school reading materials, showcasing what their children will be learning about in the classroom. To organize this book fair, we worked very closely with the FDR staff and students to curate an engaging literary collection for students of all ages.
Students and teachers created personal wishlists based on the selection of books and class materials PBC provided. These wishlists helped students easily navigate the fair and communicated to parents the content their children would be bringing home. Teacher wishlists were placed in empty baskets for parent guests to fill, giving them an accessible opportunity to meaningfully support educators and classroom learning. By the end of the three day event, every teacher wishlist had been fulfilled!
We brought a collection of books and merchandise that uniquely reflected student and teacher requests along with personal interests. We included books about gardening and plant knowledge to support students’ interest and engagement with the school gardens. We also featured books about professional local and women athletes to encourage students’ engagement with sports and inspire them to dream big. Widely popular children’s series and requests, such as the Dog Man and Kat Kid Comic Club series by Dav Pilkey, were provided to spark student’s interest and encourage recreational reading. Book related merchandise, including Dog Man and Kat Kid erasers, were extremely popular with students, providing them materials to tangibly express their reading interests to classroom peers, fostering connection and excitement over literature. To ensure all students could leave the event with a book, we also offered a selection of free titles.
The FDR book fair was an extremely impactful way to support PBC’s mission of encouraging youth readership and supporting local education. This event provided students access to engaging reading materials and created accessible opportunities for parents to support and engage with the school community. We also raised money for the school! We’re excited to host many more book fairs, partner with more local schools, and connect with even more families and students in the future.
